I'm always looking for people like me, those who eat what they like and who aren't into the diet and healthy trends. Now granted, I do buy organic and free range food whenever I can, but that's only because I don't like the idea of extra chemicals and/or preservatives being added to my food and I'm against cruelty to animals. But I'm not into health food as such. I don't like substitutions for things (margarineac for butter, tofu or soy for everything). It's not like I have a gallon of iced cream every day and pig out on French fries every night but I like normal food, homemade or otherwise. I'm sick of those commercials advertising diet pills and new get thin quick schemes. I want to go to the store and find normal food on the shelves instead of this low, reduced or nonfat stuff. And it's even worse in the organic section. I don't mind people who do it for religious or real health reasons, but everyone's going nuts these days. So, barring the two exceptions, is there anyone here like me?
i'm with you 100 percent!. :). i don't do health substitutions, or for that matter i'm really not interested in diets at all. eventually, eat what you like, and feel good for doing it
Hey tiffanitsa, I agree with you even to the point i would love to buy all organic and free range food. However it is quite expensive and we don't really have that many options for organic food here in Spokane at least not that I know of. I am on a diet but that is simply because i am rather overweight and am working to be healthier however once i am at my goal weight and am able to exercise enough to make up for it I am going to eat whatever I want with in Reasonable limits. Great topic hope to talk to you soon.

beware of the low-fat nonsense. However, many of their products are great, especially the cleaning stuff.
Elderly people are struggling to pay their bills, have to decide between heating and eating, and some have extra health problems on top of all of that etc. And with that in mind, I will continue to have an unhealthy diet. I find that people who don't care about their diet don't worry as much and are therefore happier and better to be around.
*smile* Aggreed, and in the longrun, there's less stress.
Same here.
I eat what I want, when I want, and as much as I want. I'm lucky I don't gain weight easily.
I often think about this and remembered that I wrote about it on here awhile ago so figured that I'd bring it up again to see if I could get any more interesting responses. I just wish that there was a company that made organic, or at least natural, products with normal ingredients just no preservatives and/or chemicals. The only thing that I personally buy reduced is sodium but that's because I don't like things that are too salty. Anyway, everyone goes on about those indoor grills and how they get rid of the fat content in foods. But I like my burgers and hot dogs greasy. I actually fry French fries and hot dogs in olive oil for better flavour. But are those grills any different from regular outdoor ones? If so, what about them makes them that way and can they be used like regular grills, only inside?
The food I happen to like eating is food that tastes like what it's supposed to. You know, vegetables that aren't laden in two pounds of dressing, meat that doesn't need a thick layer of sweet and tangy sauce to be delicious, crushed and blended spices instead of extra salt and sugar, pizza that's made without a layer of grease on top and cheese stuffing the crust.
Well, I'd definitely go for that kind of pizza as it sounds delicious. But when it comes to meat an vegetables, I too prefer them with seasonings and spices rather than dressings and the like. It brings out the flavours much better and I love creating new things or trying recipes that I haven't yet made. Even when I order fast food, I get a cheese burger or a hot dog plain. But that's a matter of taste. I don't do it for health reasons.
I agree with you to a point. I realize why there are preservatives in foods, and I know that the chemicals used by organic farmers, are actually more toxic, because they are not sinthesized as are the chemicals used by non-organic farmers. But I don't really feel like going into that and opening that whole argument.
The idea of eating all these foods that supposedly make you thinner, or taking a pill to make you thinner is just stupid. If you eat a balanced diet, and by balanced, I mean really balanced, and you actually get off the couch and do some excercising, then you'll be relatively healthy. Healthy, however, does not always mean thin. Some people are just fat, or what we call fat, if you have a fat body type, your not going to be able to weigh 6 pounds again. Live with it.
Very true. What's "healthy" for some isn't for others. Even if two people are of the same hight, their body types must be taken into account. And there are plenty of people who are slightly overweight who lead perfectly normal lives and are healthy enough that they don't have problems. It's when walking up the stairs makes you sound like you're running a marathon and when you can't go to normal clothing stores that you've got a problem.

aimen! also keep this in mind your family tree has a roll to play when it comes to your helth too. Not saying its a mager part but it does come into play.
Great topic. I coluld lose a few pounds and because of high blood pressure issueshave tried to eat more low sodium foods but the fact is many of these don't taste good and I have found very few lite foods that taste good, so basically I eat what I want. One of my biggest downfalls is ice cream. Love the stuff and for me it's comfort food sol onward I go. When some of these foods start to taste better, I may consider but edating is supposed to be pleasurable. If not, why not take a pill for nutritional needs? Needless to say, I love food and will continue to eat as I want to, within reason.
thank goodness. i am glad to find this topic and to know others agree with me.I'm a big follower of the greek philosophers' addage. "nothing in excess" is a great way to live. that includes candy, coffee, coke, and cookies.
Yes, it is agrivating to see all the diet pill commercials etc. I mainly cook/eat what I want. Here are a few of my personal guidelines, although, I don't follow them 100% of the time... The only low fat thing I buy is milk. I buy two percent or one percent. However, I would not buy skim. That to me, is not proper milk. One thing I did was switch from soda to low/no sodium seltzer. Now I only have soda maybe once or twice a week, and, I don't miss it much anyways. I prefer using olive oil or pam when I am frying eggs, making homefries, veggies, etc. When I make french toast though, I always coat the pan with butter. Using spray or something else does not compare. I love bacon and eggs. I tried that soy bacon garbage after a vegan friend of mine conned me into it and it was awful! I like to make a spice rub for my meats usually; steak, chicken, and fish; usually salmon... I don't see how someone could make tofu anything taste that damn good! I buy organic and free range when I can, and, if the price is right. In the supermarket though, the most important thing for me is buying store brands, unless a brand name is on sale for a better price that is. You can save so much money doing that. It amazes me the number of people that don't seem to bother with price comparison! But now, I fear I'm straying off topic.
i eat what i like. i only avoid to much MSG and salt..
